The Rincon is a huge abandoned meander of the Colorado River. The river once made a large loop to the east here and then finally cut through the thinnest part of the neck, abandoning the river bed around the long meander.
The Rincon is rugged and a prominent landmark. Two fingers of the lake extend around either side of it, reaching up the old river channel and affording many campsites, particularly at lower lake levels. The sand bars of the old channel were the site of early gold mining operations, and later, some tentative quests for oil and uranium. The name is Spanish for ΓÇ£corner.ΓÇ¥
